Thomaston voters approve ambulance purchase, fly car and three‑year tax abatement

Thomaston electors on Dec. 12 approved three unanimous measures at a special town meeting held in the Lena Morton Gallery at Thomaston Town Hall.
Voters approved an appropriation not to exceed $196,850 to purchase a Medix ambulance for the Thomaston Volunteer Ambulance Corps, with $48,000 drawn from the Town Emergency Medical Services fund and $148,850 from the Undesignated Fund Balance. The motion, moved by Robert Norton Sr. and seconded by Daniella Ouellette, also authorized First Selectman Edmond V. Mone to take necessary actions and to execute documents for the purchase.
In a separate motion, voters approved an appropriation not to exceed $65,000 from the Undesignated Fund Balance to purchase a Chevrolet Tahoe “fly car” for the volunteer corps. That motion was moved by Robert Norton Jr. and seconded by Larry Duffany and likewise authorized the First Selectman to execute documents related to the purchase.
The meeting also approved a three‑year tax abatement agreement for 34 Main Street (Pichekar Properties, LLC). Under the approved schedule, taxes on improvements will be abated 75% in the first year, 40% in the second year and 25% in the third year. Because Thomaston will undergo a tax revaluation beginning with the Oct. 1, 2025 grand list, the Board of Selectmen was authorized under Thomaston Code §247‑13(B) to update the agreement to reflect applicable assessment and tax information for the 2025 and 2026 grand lists and to record the agreement in the land records.
The meeting was called to order by First Selectman Edmond V. Mone at 7:00 p.m. Voters elected Mone moderator for the meeting and appointed Catherine P. DuPont, Town Clerk, as recording secretary; the reading of the call of the meeting was waived. With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:10 p.m. The meeting record was filed on Dec. 13, 2024.
