Committee recommends third AED for gym, asks nurse to review first-aid policy

At its Oct. 3 meeting, the Policy Committee of The Gilbert School District discussed Policy 5141.27 (First Aid/Emergency Medical Care) and the placement of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) on campus.
Members learned the school currently has two AEDs—one in the nurse’s office and one near the main office—and recommended that the Board consider purchasing a third device to locate in the gym. The committee noted a unit would cost an estimated $500–$700 but flagged that the expense is not currently budgeted.
On the policy itself, the committee asked that the school nurse compare the existing and revised policy language and provide input to ensure operational and medical considerations are reflected before the committee’s next review.
