Council members noted the tradeoffs between immediate shade, long-term maintenance and replacement cycle (staff cited a seven-to-eight year expected fabric life). The motion passed by a 4–1 recorded outcome.
Staff said the new design will match the look of nearby playground shade structures, that contractor removal will avoid full re-excavation of post footings where possible to minimize turf demo, and that the CDC confirmed available funding for the project.
