Council weighs event requests, enforcement and a proposal to disable Facebook comments

The Corydon Town Council heard a cluster of community-event and communications items ranging from festival scheduling to code-enforcement follow-ups.

Event scheduling: The manager said the Popcorn Festival will move next year to July 10–11 (the weekend after July 4). A resident requested permission for the annual car show on Oct. 19 (third Sunday) and asked that Beaver and Elm streets be closed temporarily so the event can run from about noon to 4 p.m.; the organizer said it is the car show’s 40th year and the current sponsor intends to step down after this edition.

Holiday operations: On behalf of another resident (Larry), the manager asked to close Cher Street from Nov. 28 (the Friday after Thanksgiving) through Dec. 21 on Friday–Sunday evenings from about 2 p.m. until the last wagon ride (around 11 p.m.) to provide a loading/unloading zone for the town’s Christmas wagon rides. The manager requested four sawhorses be provided and stored at the discovery center for the six-week period.

Code enforcement and community concerns: The manager reviewed property-maintenance follow-ups — overgrown grass, furniture in the road, abandoned vehicles — and asked authority to send letters and pursue enforcement on specific addresses.

Communications policy: A councilmember proposed disabling comments on the town’s Facebook posts so the page remains informational only; council discussed whether Facebook allows disabling comments and the motion was placed for consideration.
