Town manager asks council to raise regional sewer connection fee and read a 20-year sewer agreement

The town manager told the Corydon Town Council on Thursday that CNR crews had returned to finish drainage work and that he is asking the council’s permission to raise the regional sewer district monthly connection fee "from $3638 to $382 per connection starting September 1st," and to circulate a final draft of a proposed 20‑year regional sewer district county-court agreement for council review.

The manager said he will send both the existing and proposed agreements along with a page-by-page “differences” summary for council members to review before action. He described the 20‑year agreement as "nearly ready for your review" and asked for council feedback before staff pursue any further steps.

In the same report the manager announced that wastewater superintendent Ron Shanty will retire effective Dec. 31. He said the town is advertising statewide for a replacement with a Class 3 wastewater license because current staff includes only one Class 2 operator, whom the manager described as "very young, very inexperienced." The manager asked the council to authorize hiring steps and described the recruitment as statewide due to the limited local candidate pool.

The manager also explained that the fee increase is an annual adjustment the council may authorize and framed it as an administrative step to cover district costs, with the rate change scheduled to take effect Sept. 1 if the council agrees. He said he will circulate the draft county-district agreement and requested council comments before the next formal action.
