Stonington Board approves AI policies, curriculum items and athletic donations

The board approved Policy 5335 and Policy 6045 after the Policy Subcommittee recommended action; the motion (moved by Dan Kelley, seconded by Kevin Agnello) passed on a voice vote recorded as "All: Aye." The board also approved curriculum Items “A” 2 a–g on a motion from Zach Boudah, seconded by Meghan Blanchette; that motion likewise passed by unanimous voice vote. In the same session the board accepted donations of $3,214 to the boys’ soccer team and $3,214 to the girls’ soccer team (motions by Zach Boudah; seconds by Meghan Blanchette and Kevin Agnello) and expressed gratitude for the contributions.
Finance and Facilities provided an update on planned portable classrooms: Mr. Carroll reported that foundation and building drawings have been stamped and sealed and submitted to the town Planning and Zoning office, with subsequent review by the Building Department; contractors will be engaged once approvals are secured.
The board moved to repeal the bylaws listed on the agenda (item “C” 2 a–t); that motion passed by voice vote. A separate motion to alphabetize and renumber the 9000 Series bylaws was withdrawn for further review.
The meeting concluded with routine reports and an adjournment motion that passed at 8:13 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Sept. 10.
What the votes mean: the policies approved (Policy 5335 and Policy 6045) will enter the board’s policy framework; the curriculum approvals will proceed to the next procedural step indicated by the Teacher & Learning subcommittee; the portable drawings moving through Planning & Zoning represent a pre-construction step, not a guarantee of construction until final permits and contractor agreements are in place.
