Board authorizes superintendent to sign letter of intent for district solar assessment

The Stonington Board of Education on Jan. 9 voted unanimously to authorize Superintendent Mary Anne Butler to sign a letter of intent with CSW, LLC to begin a solar assessment study of district property.
Sara Baker moved and Chris Donahue seconded the motion “To have the Superintendent sign the letter of intent for the solar study.” The board recorded all votes as aye and the motion passed.
Board members and staff said the study is an early step to determine site suitability and costs; Rick Newton was recognized for his longstanding support of the district’s solar effort. Superintendent Mary Anne Butler and staff will receive and review the CSW proposal and report findings to the board as the assessment progresses.
The board discussed the solar work earlier in the meeting during communications and recognitions; the public comment period had no speakers. The motion does not itself authorize construction or funding; it authorizes a study to inform future decisions and possible follow-up actions by the board.
