William Leonard Library and Robbins Park District seek grants, tech and renewed youth programming

Kimberly Harris, interim director of the William Leonard Public Library District, told the Village of Robbins special meeting on Oct. 23 that the library has secured grant funding to upgrade computers and is pursuing a construction grant to shift the building toward a digital resource center.

"We are working on transforming space and encourage everyone to stop by and see the new improvements," Kimberly Harris said, noting the library has applied for grants and is addressing infrastructure needs including roof repairs and internet/hotspot access. The minutes record that FCC internet service and a T‑Mobile hotspot effort were expected to improve connectivity at the library, and staff plan outreach programs such as tutoring, senior Thursdays and teen programming (teen month was delayed due to roof work).

Representatives of the Robbins Park District urged coordinated recruitment to boost youth programming after noting that some programs start but do not continue. The park district announced a senior brunch and a Nov. 20 turkey drive, and said it aims to provide parks in each sector of the village and explore a multi-use facility. Park district meetings are held every third Wednesday.

Library and park officials asked other entities to share information and program listings at village hall and via newsletters so families can more easily find services. Participants also discussed apprenticeships and evening adult-learning uses for district facilities to broaden community access.
