At its June 23 meeting the North Middlesex Regional School Committee approved a package of routine and substantive business items before adjourning.
Personnel: The committee voted to approve a revised district treasurer job description and to appoint Katie Kazangian as district treasurer to succeed Michael Hartnett, who is retiring after 35 years. The appointment was approved by roll-call vote; Kazangian was present on the call.
Budget transfers: Administration presented an FY26 year-end transfer to reallocate budget lines to cover obligations and to position funds for capital needs. The transfer motion passed by roll-call vote; administration said final closeouts will be reported after June 30 and that staff may call a short July meeting to finalize any outstanding transfers.
Policies: The committee adopted artificial-intelligence guidelines and approved first readings of a revised cell-phone and related-device policy (moving toward a broad ban during the school day with narrow, documented exceptions) and a reorganized facilities-use fee schedule (KF/KFR1). The cell-phone and facilities-fee measures were advanced for first reading and further public and committee review; committee members asked administration to gather community feedback before final adoption.
Other votes and appointments: The committee elected Michael Labosier chair of the finance subcommittee, appointed Keenan Francois as the district’s towns-and-community liaison, and approved the 2026–27 school committee calendar. Several actions included roll-call tallies recorded in the meeting minutes.
Next steps: Administration will follow up on budget closeout details, conduct the public outreach and policy committee work requested on travel and cell-phone policy questions, and schedule any short special meetings required for time-sensitive approvals.
