East Bradford EAC pins down sustainability tasks, flags composting and resilience outreach

The East Bradford Township Environmental Advisory Council met June 22, 2026, and focused on implementing sections of the Township Sustainability Plan that assign work to the EAC, including resident education on stormwater, energy efficiency, weatherization and alternative energy.
Maura Sheehan, who reviewed the plan, said the EAC was asked to "develop standards for carbon sequestering and energy efficiency and to assess the Township's vulnerability to climate change" and to "review the need for a composting program or facility." Sheehan said she will circulate a PDF of the plan pages that reference the EAC so members can discuss them at the next meeting.
Members also discussed communications tied to climate resilience. The minutes note that "Jill has posted on social media about heat emergencies," and Maura Sheehan suggested expanding posts to include weather-alert information so residents receive critical warnings.
On energy outreach, the minutes record that Ed McConnell developed a renewable-energy flyer that was distributed in goody bags at the Trailblazer's Run on June 11; Suzanne Webster cautioned that PECO sometimes offers rebates on high-lumen products and urged consumers to take care when evaluating offers. Paul Lewis raised a question about balcony solar panels, noting they are common in Europe and can be moved easily and therefore "would not require a permit," a point the council noted for future consideration.
The meeting also received an update that revisions to the comprehensive zoning ordinance have been completed and the draft has been sent to the township solicitor; the township and neighboring municipalities are collaborating on a data center ordinance.
