Benzie County names EMS advisers, appoints counsel and amends board rules

The Benzie County Board appointed two EMS advisory members, named legal counsel for a county inmate case, approved a deputy drain commissioner contract and amended board rules changing some evening start times to 4:00 p.m.
At its Jan. 27 meeting the Benzie County Board of Commissioners made several administrative appointments and approved agreements.
The board unanimously appointed Jim Franke as the Thompsonville resident representative on the EMS Advisory Committee and appointed Charlie Thompson as the area fire chief representative for a three-year term through December 2018. Commissioners also noted two additional openings on the EMS Advisory Committee — a citizen-at-large and a paramedic non-voting position — and directed the clerk to advertise those vacancies.
The board appointed Lisa Vogler to represent Benzie County in the BC/BS v. Benzie County inmate case; Vogler told the board she will accept the county’s standard pay for contract counsel. The board also approved a Deputy Drain Commissioner contract and an Interagency Agreement for Mental Health Services in the criminal justice system, authorizing the chair to sign both documents.
Commissioners adopted updated Board Rules as amended to change the notation of 6:00 p.m. start times for evening meetings to 4:00 p.m. for some meetings. The county administrator will meet with the chief judge to develop a government-center closure policy and return it to the board for consideration.
The board also approved the 2015 committee appointments and named Commissioner Sauer as the county veterans liaison. The meeting concluded after a brief public input period.
