Council holds first reading on airport zoning changes that would shorten side-yard setbacks

The Enumclaw City Council opened a public hearing at 7:07 p.m. and heard a staff presentation on Ordinance 28-37, proposed amendments to the Airport Zoning District. Senior Planner Winston Larson presented the measure, which would reduce minimum side-yard setbacks in the airport zoning district from 20 feet to 10 feet and amend a footnote to permit structures up to 18 feet in height where the district abuts residential properties.
Larson said the changes are intended to align development standards with aviation operations and nearby uses and to implement provisions in Enumclaw’s 2024 comprehensive plan. He told the council that the planning commission reviewed the amendments and voted on April 23, 2026, to recommend approval.
Mayor (S1) opened the floor for public comment and, when no one spoke in the chamber, closed the hearing at 7:12 p.m. Staff recommended the council give the ordinance its first reading; no formal action to adopt the ordinance was taken at the meeting.
If the council proceeds, the ordinance would return for subsequent readings or adoption at a future meeting. The staff report, planning commission findings and written correspondence from Beck Sessa were entered into the record for council consideration.
