Lakeville reports steady summer targeted-services program; credit recovery expanded to younger students

District staff on June 23 briefed the school board on summer learning programs and credit-recovery services currently running across four elementary sites, a middle school site, a high-school site and an online option.
Presenters Margaret Gehr and Janet McBride said the district uses FastBridge assessment data and building-level teacher recommendations to qualify students under the Minnesota Graduation Incentives statute for targeted services. The district also reported that credit-recovery enrollment had climbed to about 180 students because of earlier identification and added licensed staff; three students have completed diplomas so far in summer programming. The programs operate on schedules designed to break even financially; staff said the target attendance rate is about 70–80% and they plan to use wait lists as openings occur.
Administrators emphasized use of licensed teachers, special-education collaboration for IEP needs in summer, and a planned "step-up" week for incoming ninth-graders in the coming year. The board asked about funding and eligibility; staff replied the programs generate an ADM (about 0.2 per qualifying student under the statute) and that capacity and statutory eligibility limit expansion beyond students who meet qualifying criteria.
