Aaron Rivera, a Covina parent and public school teacher, told the Planning Commission he was "deeply concerned" that City Treasurer Neil Polzin "made comments about picking up the cost to host an after school Satan Club at Charter Oak High School," and said voters should "know the truth about the individuals representing the city" as Polzin seeks reelection.
Joanna Berblige, identifying herself as a Christian resident and parent, said she was troubled that the treasurer27s email had referred to "the Christian church as the hate church," which she said "reflects hostility towards people of faith" and risks increasing division. Berblige urged respectful treatment of all families and warned against normalizing rhetoric that marginalizes faith communities.
Mario Subovaro, co-owner of Miss Nicky27s Event Productions, used the public comment period to thank city staff and commissioners for supporting community events and promoted the Miss Nicky27s Night Market on May 15, which he said will raise funds for local organizations including the Covina Cal Grapplers wrestling program and feature vendors, food, and a community raffle.
The commission did not take formal action on the comments. The Chair closed public comment and moved on to the consent calendar.
