Waterville expands Hot Summer Nights footprint; two-hour parking request tabled
Summary
Council approved an expanded layout for Hot Summer Nights and a bike-route banner but tabled a request to designate two-hour customer parking downtown pending further research.
Patty Salmon and Laura Hoffman of the Waterville Chamber of Commerce asked the council to expand Hot Summer Nights into additional downtown blocks to accommodate growing attendance. The council approved an extension of the event footprint—adding the section of Main Street in front of the old Fire Hall through First Street and additional Paquin Street blocks—and added parking in front of Old City Hall on Third Street; motion carried 4-0.
The Chamber also requested a directional bike-route banner at 3rd and Hoosac; council approved a narrower vertical sign with an arrow and "bike route" wording to reduce obstruction.
Separately, business owner Brady Fischer and Laura Hoffman asked the council to consider a two-hour parking limit on 3rd Street to increase parking turnover. Council discussed enforcement options (chalk-and-log enforcement by police) and curb markings or a loading zone, but voted to table the parking change and directed staff to research options and return at the next meeting.
