At its March 3 meeting, the Waterville City Council approved a cluster of operational measures and scheduled events aimed at public safety, infrastructure and community services.
Personnel: The council approved the Human Resources Committee’s recommendation to hire Anthony Evens as a Public Works Level 2 employee, contingent on a successful background check and reference verifications. The motion was made by Dave Wollin and seconded by Scott Potter and carried 5-0.
Public safety equipment and construction: Council approved a one-time $1,086.43 share of a multi-entity joint purchase to acquire a Quantifit 2 testing machine for annual testing of firefighters’ breathing apparatus; the purchase was authorized on a 5-0 vote. Council also approved multiple fire-hall change orders—covering doors/frames/hardware, HVAC and plumbing, and low-voltage electrical work including Kendell Doors—by a 5-0 vote. Engineer Jason Femrite said finishing work remains, with an anticipated move-in around April and an open house once the station is operational.
Facilities and community events: The council authorized purchasing a 40' x 8' x 9.5' storage container (low quote $3,861.00) to centralize Emergency Management supplies, and set the City Clean Up Day for May 16, 2026, from noon to 2:00 p.m. at the Old City Shop lot; staff will publish details and pricing information from West Central Sanitation in the spring newsletter.
Votes at a glance: The meeting recorded the following motions that carried unanimously (5-0): approval of the amended agenda; approval of the consent agenda and disbursements totaling $504,023.74; approval of fire-hall change orders; scheduling a special HR meeting for March 19; approval of the Quantifit 2 joint purchase ($1,086.43); approval of lower-potency hemp edible licenses (contingent on application and $125); approval of the Public Works hire (contingent on background check); approval of the storage container purchase; motions to enter and exit closed session for attorney-client litigation; and adjournment.
