The Canby City Council met Sept. 18 at City Hall and unanimously approved a series of routine actions, including a final payment to the sealcoating contractor, adoption of the HRA tax-levy resolution and approval of the city’s preliminary 2025 budget.
Sheila Krohse presented the final sealcoating pay request and told the council the project came in about $23,000 under the original contract. The council approved a final payment of $92,664.34 to Pearson Bros., Inc.; the motion was made by Council Member Denise Hanson and seconded by Council Member Marisa Kack, and all members present voted in favor. Krohse said a contractor is expected to return later in the month to complete remaining punch-list items.
The council also adopted Resolution 2024-09-18-1 to set the Canby Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA) tax levy for 2025 at the maximum amount allowed under state law. The resolution text in the meeting record cites Minnesota Statutes 469.001–469.047 and Minn. Stat. §469.033, subd. 6. The motion to adopt the resolution was made by Council Member Susan Cram, seconded by Hanson, and passed unanimously.
Council members approved Preliminary Budget Resolution 2024-09-18-2 by motion of Hanson, seconded by Kack; the vote was unanimous.
On board appointments, the council appointed Paulette Blair to fill a vacancy on the Pioneerland Board (motion by Cram, second by Hanson; unanimous). Council also named Susan Cram and Marisa Kack to serve on a negotiating committee. City Administrator Bonnie Merritt announced a public hearing on Oct. 2 for the Canby Sportsman’s Club.
The meeting opened with the council approving the evening’s agenda and the minutes of the Sept. 3 meeting by unanimous votes, and it concluded with a motion to adjourn that passed without opposition.
The council recorded signature lines for Mayor Nancy Bormann and City Administrator Bonnie Merritt at the close of the meeting.
