Calumet council approves $70,000 sale of fire truck and accepts July financial reports

Calumet’s City Council on Aug. 20 approved July financial reports and several routine motions, including the sale of a 2004 Kenworth fire truck and small community donations.
The council approved the Clerk and Treasurer reports showing receipts of $260,291.35, disbursements of $267,437.79, investments of $9,847.05 and a total checking balance of $510,445.06; meeting minutes note a $200,000 payment for the Gary Street project. Councilmember Dan Strand moved to approve the reports and bills; the motion carried.
Council then approved a purchase agreement and Bill of Sale to Goodland Township for the 2004 Kenworth fire truck for $70,000, with possession expected around Sept. 15, 2024. The motion, moved by Tim Zaren and seconded by Amanda Hernesman, carried with Nick Porter absent.
The council also approved a $250 donation to Grace House and the Itasca County Historical Society, and granted a zoning permit to Megan Bickman to install a galvanized fence with wood braces despite one opposing vote from Tim Zaren. The clerk was directed to follow up on enforcement matters and to coordinate dates for a budget meeting with Bonnie Sterle.
The council set a work session for Oct. 1 to review capital priorities, including proposed ball field repairs estimated at about $10,000.
