Public works flags equipment, sewer and shut-off issues; council considers camera quote at pump house

Public Works Supervisor Bill Berger told the Calumet City Council on Nov. 19 that crews had been picking up garbage, a contractor (JR Wastewater) had not yet returned to run a camera down a sewer line at a property owned by Dave Chupurdia, and the large street sweeper is not running because it needs a replacement cutting edge.
Berger said the department is evaluating a snowblower attachment for the John Deere track hoe with an estimated cost of about $12,000 and that he will contact Clerk Jolene (name per minutes) about pursuing an OSHA grant to offset costs. The clerk and council discussed coordinating with Nashwauk Police Department for on-site water checks at a vacant commercial property.
The minutes show 20 shut-off letters were sent and that one account (Lee Ramsey) had service shut off. The council also discussed a $12,350.46 quote from IRN representative Dwayne Wollack to install cameras and a new server at the pump house under an MDH grant; the council tabled that proposal and asked Treasurer Mary Garner to help identify other installers.
