Calumet council approves pump-work quote and discusses $8,500 well repairs

Calumet City Council on July 16 approved MN Pump Works quote #57 for $8,145.90 to repair check valves at the main lift station and discussed repairs to Well #2 after a vendor advised service and parts would cost about $8,500.

In the public works report, city staff relayed a letter from Thein Well stating that Well #2 needs service and parts estimated at $8,500. The council also reported they are waiting for a separate estimate from MN Pump Works to replace check valves at the main lift station; later in the meeting Councilmember Dan Strand moved to approve MN Pump Works quote #57 in the amount of $8,145.90, a motion seconded by Councilmember Nick Porter and recorded as carried.

Council discussion included authorization to proceed with necessary maintenance on the well and lift-station equipment. The council approved the financial motion to pay the MN Pump Works quote and asked staff to process the work order. The minutes note an unresolved question about WWTP bills and a request to ensure investments are deducted from disbursements before allocation.

The council also approved a $375 rental (motion recorded) for a mini excavator to dig culverts and ditches at multiple city streets and directed that the expense be submitted to FEMA for potential grant reimbursement; the transcript records the motion but does not record a second or formal vote in the minutes.
