Council approves deck permit, E911 signage and to advertise for Class C sewer operator

At its July 3 meeting the Brownsville City Council approved several routine operational items, including a building permit, signage purchases and staffing advertisements.
Mayor Jean Meyer presented a building permit from resident Brandon Frank for a 551-square-foot deck on the north side of his house. Councilmember Tim Klug and Meyer inspected the property, found setback requirements met, and Klug moved with Bill Fitzpatrick seconding to approve the permit; the motion carried.
In maintenance matters, the council approved the purchase of E911 address signs for Mississippi Lane after reviewing estimates (motion by Bill Fitzpatrick; second by Tim Klug). City Maintenance Dean Twite reported ordered E911 signs and a 'No Parking in Alley' sign; he also noted weed control in the sewer bed and that the Brownsville sign lighting had been replaced with possible Lions Club contribution toward costs.
On sewer operations, the council discussed contracting versus hiring and voted to advertise for a Class C licensed sewer operator and a backup with a 60-day timeline (moved by Pam Walhovd, seconded by Barb Hurley). The council asked Twite to gather pricing for rehabilitation of Apartment 10 at Bluffview Manor and to email quotes to council members.
Administrative items: Clerk Jenna Knight requested membership in the Minnesota Association of Small Cities; the council approved the $406 membership fee (mover: Barb Hurley). A donation request to Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation was declined (motion by Bill Fitzpatrick, seconded by Barb Hurley). Knight's request to change her hourly pay rate will be addressed at the January meeting. The council agreed to advertise candidate filing locations for council and mayor positions. The meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
