The Brownsville City Council took a cluster of procedural and spending actions at its Aug. 7 meeting, approving a street vacation resolution, agreeing to partially fund bleachers for the Brownsville Lions Club, and declining to purchase audio/video recording equipment for council meetings.
On a motion by Pam Walhovd, seconded by Tim Klug, the council approved a resolution to vacate the west half of North 2nd Street lying east of lots 89, 90, 93 and 94 in the Brownsville Original Plat. The clerk was instructed to mail notice to affected landowners two weeks before the Sept. 4 meeting.
The council approved a request from the Brownsville Lions Club to purchase two 5-tier, 15-foot aluminum bleacher sections and to contribute $500 toward related expenses. The motion passed with Barb Hurley recorded as abstaining.
Council members debated purchasing equipment to record and post meetings. Pam Walhovd’s motion to table the decision failed for lack of a second. Barb Hurley then moved that the city not pursue an audio/video purchase and instead direct the clerk to preserve audio recordings on a computer or storage device; that motion carried.
The council denied a tenant-requested conversion of an existing tub to a new walk-in shower at Bluffview Manor after discussion; the denial motion was moved by Barb Hurley and seconded by Tim Klug.
On maintenance matters, the council accepted a high bid of $600 for the white brush mower from C.J. Prudence with a condition that settlement occur within five business days or the $500 bid from Tim Rohrer would be honored.
Finally, the council approved a temporary liquor license for the Brownsville Lions Club’s upcoming gun raffle. The meeting adjourned at 8:55 p.m.
