Buhl administrator: rain delays projects, water tower work targeted for spring 2025, Blandin grant to update plan

City Administrator Tony Jeffries told the Buhl City Council on July 9 that heavy June rains have delayed multiple street projects, including work in the Damian 2nd Addition, Whiteside, Woodbridge and Seville avenues, and that the curb and gutter at Damian 2nd Addition has been placed and "will be backfilled soon." Jeffries said "blue-top" staking for final grade is anticipated in one to two weeks, with paving to follow.
Jeffries also presented a preliminary schedule for a water tower project that the city now anticipates moving to physical construction activities by April–May 2025. He announced the city had been selected for a Blandin Foundation grant to update the Comprehensive Plan and said staff had requested preliminary engineering estimates for work at the Buhl Business Block to be returned by July 25.
On storm impacts, Jeffries reported a severe June weather event eroded storm culverts at Whiteside Road and washed out the roadway; culverts were removed and replaced and the city will seek emergency funding to capture and reimburse the costs related to that work. Jeffries said further meetings with St. Louis County about a potential new County/State Aid road are planned for mid–late July.
Council members thanked staff for the status updates and asked for follow-up on scheduling and grant details. Staff noted MRWA assistance for planned smoke testing as a component of I&I work is being targeted for late August–early September.
