Resident questions council communication after Blandin grant application surfaced

He also suggested Bollig and ISG engineering firms support a local comprehensive plan and offered to help set up video recordings of meetings for the city website.
Councilmember Pam Walhovd said a letter of intent for the Blandin grant was submitted March 29 and proposals were opened in April, and she said the full council was not informed either at the May meeting or afterward. Walhovd added that council approval is required for grant applications. Councilmember Tim Klug said the grant was not mentioned for two months following the application and that the council might handle such opportunities differently in the future.
Barb Hurley asked that a $100,000 figure that had been recorded in the minutes be removed; the council agreed by consensus to delete the sentence from the minutes before approving them as amended. No formal motion to accept or reject the Blandin grant was recorded at the meeting, and council members said only that communication about the application needed improvement.
The discussion produced no immediate vote or binding direction to staff. Councilmembers emphasized that future short-notice grant opportunities will require clearer procedures so the full council can weigh in. The meeting record includes no final determination about whether Brownsville will pursue Blandin Foundation funding or any other specific grant for a comprehensive plan.
