Mayor West introduced two Exemplary Citizen recognitions during the meeting. The mayor described Laura Hinton as a Great Bridge High School pioneer and as the first African American football player at Louisiana State University, and presented a plaque and resolution on behalf of the city. Hinton accepted and described plans for a project and documentary titled "A Legacy Beyond the Gridiron."
Mayor West then presented a certificate to Reece Jackson in recognition of more than a decade of leadership as president and CEO of Chesapeake Regional Healthcare, citing expansions to critical care, cancer services, trauma and behavioral-health capacity during his tenure. Jackson thanked the council, staff and community partners.
The recognitions were ceremonial; no council vote was required.
