Chesapeake Soccer Club asks council for help after years of field deterioration at Centerville Park

"We as a full volunteer nonprofit organization invest roughly $40,000 a year through lawn care, field maintenance in an effort to give back to the city's graciousness to give us permits to use the fields," Phillips said. He said the club hosts 30–40 games on a typical weekend and that anywhere between 300 and 700 people attend across two days, increasing safety and liability concerns when fields are not properly maintained.
City Manager Price responded that the city values nonprofit sport partners and staff would check into agreements and conditions associated with those fields; the manager committed to following up with the club.
No motion or direct funding appropriation for field improvements was recorded at the meeting.
