Broken Bow council approves resolution to offer city-owned lot at 631 South 9th Avenue for sealed bids

The Broken Bow City Council on June 28 approved Resolution 2022-8 to offer for sealed bid the city-owned property at 631 South 9th Avenue, a lot the city acquired after an unsafe structure there was demolished in October 2021.

Mayor Rod Sonnichsen presided over the meeting and the council voted to accept sealed bids; David Schmidt moved for approval and Larry Miller seconded. The resolution covers LOTS FIVE (5) AND SIX (6), BLOCK TWELVE (12), J.P. GANDY'S ADDITION TO BROKEN BOW, CUSTER COUNTY, NEBRASKA, and lists the parcel as valued at over $37,000. Sealed bids must be submitted to the City Clerk by 5:00 p.m. on July 22, 2022; the bids will be opened at the City Council meeting on July 26, 2022.

Explaining the property history during the brief public hearing, City Administrator Dan Knoell said the building had been deemed unsafe and removed in October 2021, and Mayor Sonnichsen said the lot "could be developed into something better and there is no reason for the City to hold on to it." The hearing was opened at 6:06 p.m. and closed at 6:08 p.m.

The motion to approve Resolution 2022-8 passed on a roll-call vote with members David Schmidt, Larry Miller, Chris Myers and David Baltz recorded as voting aye; no nay votes were recorded. The council did not specify minimum bid amounts in the minutes; interested bidders should consult the City Clerk for the full solicitation packet.

Next steps: the city will accept sealed bids through the July 22 deadline and will publicly open bids at the July 26 council meeting.
