The Douglas County Board of Commissioners approved the Visitor Improvement Fund allocation recommendations for the 2026–2027 cycle at its June 23, 2026 meeting.
Todd Simon, chair of the Visitor Improvement Fund Committee, presented the recommendations and urged prompt action so events and attractions launching in July and later this year could access funding. "The sooner we can get these funds deployed, the sooner we can continue to advance the cause of attractions and cultural amenities in the community," Simon said.
Commissioner Rogers moved to approve the committee recommendations; Commissioner Morgan seconded. The motion passed 3–1, with Commissioner Borgensson recorded as the lone no vote. Commissioners did not place additional conditions on the allocations during the meeting.
Simon thanked the commission for considering the recommendations despite a reduced staff presence at the meeting and noted several events and attractions will begin programming in July and August. The clerk recorded the vote and the allocations will proceed according to the committee's schedule and county disbursement procedures.
The allocations support local cultural and tourism activities; the specific projects and dollar amounts were submitted by the Visitor Improvement Fund Committee and recorded in the committee packet referenced at the meeting.
