During the public-comment portion of the Village of Northfield council meeting on Jan. 8, resident Dale Drazil complained that he received a snow-ban parking ticket after plowing had been completed and asked the council for clearer guidance on when street parking is prohibited.
Drazil, who gave his address as 9125 Cambridge, said he has lived in the village for many years, regularly parks on the street and has not received a ticket for this before. He told council the ticket was issued after plowing that day and said his household has four cars to manage. “He asked how he was supposed to know whether he can park on the street or not during the winter and asked for better guidance from the City,” the minutes state.
Law Director Brad Bryan recommended caution: do not park on the street when there is sufficient snow or ice that could require plowing. Mayor Jenn Domzalski said she would look into whether the Village could use its alert system to notify residents when the snow ban is in effect.
Why it matters: The comment draws attention to enforcement and communication practices around the village’s snow-ban policy (the ban applies when there are two inches of snow or more, per the minutes). Council did not record a formal policy change at the meeting but proposed investigating notification options.
What’s next: Mayor Domzalski said she would look into whether alerts could be used to notify residents about snow-ban status; the minutes do not record a timeline or commitment beyond that review.
