Northfield engineer, police and fire chiefs give updates on new facilities, vehicle surplus and fire board appointments

Engineer Daniel Collins said he will meet with First Energy about upgrading the new police station facility to 600 Amp service and will meet with Generator One regarding installation of a generator, which will be located on the Magnolia side of the building. Collins reported the storm sewer connection serving the police station property could not be located after demolition of the old medical building and may need to be rebuilt; he characterized the work as not expected to be a major expense.
Police Chief Brian Zajac provided his monthly report to council and asked for authorization to list the department's 2016 Ford utility vehicle for sale on gov.deals. Fire Chief Jason Buss asked that the Fire Department's 2013 Ford F-150 be included in that authorization. Council approved the motion to surplus and sell both vehicles.
Chief Buss also requested appointment of members to the Village Volunteer Firefighter Dependency Fund Board; Council approved appointments of Captain Joseph Zemek and Paul Wojtkewicz as firefighter representatives, Councilmembers Gary Vojtush and Renell Noack as council representatives, and Denise Lewis as a citizen representative. Buss said Summit County Building Department will perform what should be a final inspection of the new fire facility later in the week and tentatively scheduled an open house for June 14 (10 a.m.–2 p.m.); he said two part-time firefighter candidates have been interviewed and hires will be presented to council if background checks are cleared.
The meeting record shows the department updates and appointments were unanimously approved where motions were recorded; no dollar amounts or specific timelines for repairs were provided in the minutes.
