Historical Society of Old Northfield asks for donations to complete museum repairs

Ellen Bertel, president of the Historical Society of Old Northfield, updated the Village Council on the society's preservation work and appealed for additional donations to complete repairs at the Palmer House.
Bertel said donations this year made it possible to replace several of the museum's windows; she said nine additional windows and a couple of doors still need replacement. She thanked the Village for last year's donations of historical blueprints and funding and noted that attendance at the society's regular meetings and traffic to its Facebook page have increased.
Councilmember Gary Vojtush offered to show Bertel several historical fire department badges and other artifacts the museum might want. Bertel noted the society already holds the badge and handcuffs used by the first Village constable.
The council did not record any formal action on the museum request; the report was entered under remonstrances/presentations and no vote or funding appropriation appears in the meeting minutes.
The council's next Recreation Board meeting is scheduled for June 4; community events and municipal announcements were presented later in the meeting.
