Byron council approves fee changes tied to CPI, audit engagement, appointments and radio upgrades

The City of Byron Mayor and Council approved a package of routine business items on Feb. 13, 2023, including adoption of a fee ordinance that allows annual increases tied to the Consumer Price Index (CPI), authorization of an engagement letter for the City's 2022 audit, a board appointment, and approval to proceed with public safety radio upgrades.
On a unanimous vote, the council adopted Ordinance #2023‑1 (second reading), which amends the code to provide for annual increases in monthly rates charged by the city based on the CPI or other economic indicators and updates water, sewer, stormwater and solid‑waste sections of city code. The ordinance was moved and seconded and recorded as adopted without dissent.
Council also unanimously authorized the mayor to sign an Audit Engagement Letter with Mauldin & Jenkins, CPAs, for the 2022 audit. The council approved an appointment of Farrell Bass to the Planning & Zoning Board (term to Sept. 13, 2024) and approved a motion regarding Amendment 4 to the Restated GMEBS Defined Benefit Retirement Plan as adopted by the Georgia Municipal Employees Benefit System Board of Trustees; two other GMEBS items were deferred to the March agenda.
Separately, the council approved moving forward with procurement and expenditure steps for public safety radio upgrades, authorizing staff to pursue the request for proposal process.
All items were approved unanimously by the members present. The meeting lasted about 14 minutes and concluded without further fiscal or policy conditions attached to these approvals.
