Auburn council adopts 2026 downtown revitalization plan; passes appropriation ordinance on first reading

The Auburn Common Council on May 5 adopted Resolution 7-2026, the 2026 downtown Auburn revitalization plan that replaces the 2018 plan, and passed Ordinance 2026-14 (an additional appropriation for the 2026 budget) on first reading.
During discussion on the downtown plan one council member suggested the city consider temporary restroom solutions—"establishing some downtown restroom, you know, with a trailer system or something"—while staff and council consider permanent locations. The suggestion was offered as a practical complement to the revitalization work and was not adopted as a formal direction at the meeting.
Council also approved routine business: the April 21 minutes were approved by motion and voice vote; the Clerk-Treasurer presented vouchers totaling $3,613,730.50, which the council approved by voice vote. The mayor reported a Mayor's Youth Council game night on June 5 at Memorial Park and announced the American Legion Post 97 Memorial Day ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on Memorial Day at 9th and South Main.
The council set its next regular meeting for May 19, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., then moved, seconded and adjourned.
