West Branch council names Lions Club-funded pickleball court, approves fund transfer and routine permits

The West Branch City Council unanimously approved Resolution 2026-46 to name the pickleball court at Cubby Park, which the Lions Club funded. The measure passed on a motion by Councilmember Colton Miller and a second from Councilmember Tom Dean.
The council also approved Resolution 2026-47 authorizing a transfer of funds for fiscal year 2026 and adopted a consent agenda that included approval of the May 4, 2026 minutes; appointment of new library board members; FY27 retail cigarette/tobacco/nicotine/vapor permits; Class C liquor license renewals for Maverick Convenience Store and Parkside BP; March and April financial statements; and claims for May 18, 2026. City staff presented expenditures and paid-between-meeting totals, with grand total expenditures reported as $199,257.21 across multiple funds.
During consideration of a special-event permit for the Farmers Market, Marilyn Hansen spoke with the council about location. The council decided the market will continue at Heritage Square and asked that food vendors and trucks set up away from the square to avoid direct competition with nearby restaurants. The additional consent agenda item was approved on a motion by Tom Dean and seconded by Chantry Noel.
The meeting opened at 6:00 p.m. under Mayor Roger Laughlin and adjourned at 7:17 p.m.
