At its May 18 meeting the Town of Laurel Mayor & Council voted unanimously to accept the first readings of two ordinances.
Town Manager Jamie Smith presented Ordinance 2026-2 to amend Chapter 69 (curfew) to specify curfew applicability for those 18 and under, authorize officer discretion supported by training and experience, permit written warnings, and set a minimum $50 fine for a first offense. President of Council Chris Calio moved to accept the first reading; the motion carried 6-0.
Smith also presented Ordinance 2026-3 to amend Chapter 157 (Utility Construction and Repair). The amendment would require that for any town roadway a contractor from the town’s approved contractor list provide a set price for installation of water and sewer service lines and that the fee be paid at the time of building permit issuance. Councilman Donald Holden moved to accept the ordinance’s first reading; the motion carried 6-0.
Both measures were advanced to later proceedings for further consideration; no final adoptions occurred at the May 18 meeting.
