Village honors Schaefer’s Greenhouse on its 100th anniversary

Manager Nemets opened the village’s public participation segment by recognizing Schaefer’s Greenhouse for reaching its centennial anniversary and invited family members and new owners forward to accept two commemorative signs.

“It’s my honor to speak about an exciting business anniversary here in the village…an incredible milestone of a hundred years of growing roots in Montgomery,” Manager Nemets said, noting the business began in 1926 and has been a local gathering place for generations. He announced the greenhouse’s community celebration is scheduled for Saturday, July 18, beginning at 11:00 a.m., with a 10:45 a.m. ribbon cutting for elected officials.

Donna Cuda, who identified herself as co-owner alongside her husband Al Cuda, thanked the board and the community for the recognition. “We are truly honored by this recognition and grateful to be here celebrating the 100th anniversary of Schaefer Green Houses,” she said, and described the purchase as stewardship of the family legacy. She named family members and long-time staff who continue to work at the business, including Mike Schaefer (growing operations), Jane Schaefer (customer service), Brett (perennials), and Maryanne (plant care).

Manager Nemets and board members noted the recent investment by AEC Supply and said the new ownership plans facility improvements and community-focused features while preserving the greenhouse’s history. The board presented two commemorative signs (one for the family and one for display at the business) and posed for photographs.

The presentation concluded with board thanks and an open invitation for the community to attend the July 18 celebration.
