Fayette commissioners approve Griffin Judicial Circuit budget position and $15,000 juvenile-judge supplements

The Fayette County Board of Commissioners on May 21 approved staff recommendations on the Griffin Judicial Circuit’s Fiscal Year 2027 budget and voted to add a $15,000 supplement for each Juvenile Court judge.
County Administrator Steve Rapson explained the Griffin Judicial Circuit (GJC) will assume employment responsibility for nine court staff and that the circuit had submitted a budget that the GJC sought the counties to ratify. Finance staff presented two allocation approaches and noted a proposed intergovernmental agreement to use a blended allocation rate; specifics could change depending on agreement among the four counties in the circuit.
Vice Chairman Edward Gibbons moved to include an additional $15,000 supplement for each Juvenile Court judge and the Board approved the motion 4-0. Gibbons then moved to approve the Griffin Judicial Circuit budget as presented; that motion also passed 4-0. Rapson cautioned that the County’s final allocation could vary if the other counties in the circuit adopt different rates but said staff would incorporate the supplements into GJC materials and present updates at the June 11 budget hearing.
The Board’s action records the County’s position on the circuit budget and adds the supplements for inclusion in the documentation that the circuit will forward to all four counties.
