Port Wentworth issues proclamations for April observances and recognizes staff milestones

Port Wentworth City Council read proclamations recognizing Autism Awareness Month, Child Abuse Prevention Month, Fair Housing Month and Georgia Cities Week during its April 17 meeting. Representatives from local organizations thanked the city for the recognitions.
Jacquline Smith, CEO of the Matthew Reardon Center for Autism, accepted the Autism Awareness Month proclamation and described services for children ages 5 to 21. Daisy Hernandez, Director of Domestic Violence Services at Safe Shelter, accepted the Child Abuse Prevention Month proclamation and detailed Safe Shelter’s programs — including counseling, case management, legal assistance with temporary protective orders and a two-year follow-up program — and said services are offered countywide. Laura Lane McKinnon, Executive Director of Housing Savannah Inc., thanked the council for the Fair Housing Month proclamation and described the nonprofit’s focus on affordable housing supply, repair and down payment programs and partnership work.
Separately, City Manager Steve Davis and Fire Chief Lance Moore recognized Fire Captain of Training Dustin Holden for five years of service and praised his work in training and department improvements. Davis also recognized Omar Senati Martinez for earning a Certified Public Works Manager designation from the Carl Vinson Institute of Government.
Council members and the mayor pro-tem read the proclamations and expressed appreciation to the organizations and staff recognized. These items were presented as ceremonial recognitions and proclamations; no formal votes beyond adoption of the proclamations were recorded in the public minutes.
