Wabash City board approves summer event permits, including Moose Lodge car and bike show

The Wabash City Board of Public Works and Safety approved multiple special-event permits on March 23, including a Moose Lodge car-and-bike show that will use adjacent city parking lots and a multi-week Honeywell Plaza music series planned for June.

Lucinda Holderman, identified in the meeting as a trustee and the lodge’s activity director, asked the board for permission to use the parking lots between the Moose Lodge and Reynolds and to close the alley between those properties for the duration of the show. "I don't want to close the road in front of the Moose... I'd like to be able to have a permit or permission to use the parking lots between us and Reynolds so we don't... inhibit the traffic and cause congestion," Holderman said. She said the lodge would use its staff to direct vehicles into the lot, that the event would include cars, motorcycles, a DJ and a shaded awning with nonalcoholic refreshments, and that indoor facilities would be available in case of rain.

Board members discussed insurance and whether activity in the parking lot differs from holding the event on the street; staff and members agreed the risk appeared similar to past street shows. The board moved, seconded and voted in favor of the Moose Lodge permit.

The board also took a Farmers Market special-events application off the table (it had been tabled at the March 9 meeting) and voted to approve it after a member urged care given the "state of world affairs" and large gatherings. Finally, the board approved the Honeywell Plaza Music Series for June, noting it has historically run for several years and that organizers had completed required paperwork.

All event approvals were made by motion and recorded as passed. The board set no additional conditions on the permits during the meeting. The board adjourned and noted its next meeting is scheduled for April 13, 2026.
