Highway Superintendent Steve Berg told the board that the County Council approved advertising for an additional appropriation of $95,000 to replace a dump truck. Berg also described staffing adjustments for mowing and sign replacement and said the department will conduct the annual sanitation sticker audits on Aug. 21, 2024.
Highway Engineer Brent Wendholt summarized an Indiana LTAP local roads and bridges condition and needs study and sought authorization to proceed with a polymer‑based dust control/road stabilization trial on 650 South. Wendholt provided two budgetary quotes from suppliers for the polymer product (Dustpods ~ $5,200; Perma‑Zyme ~ $5,300); the board gave consensus to proceed with the trial now that chip‑seal season has ended.
Wendholt also reported ongoing work on Bridge #254 on St. Anthony Road West: the south wall footer has been poured and the first 8‑foot section of wall is complete and will be backfilled prior to pouring the final section. Berg said the Department of Natural Resources released mining bonds at Shamrock Mine, enabling preparation of a reclamation contract that will include ditch and drainage work and identification of a new turn‑around location on CR 750 West after landowner consultation.
The board asked staff to coordinate with affected landowners and the county mechanic where necessary; no formal votes were required for the consensus items recorded.
