Dubois County applies for Community Crossing Matching Grant; road work, bridge footer and chip-seal schedule updated

Highway Engineer Brent Wendholt and Highway Superintendent Steve Berg updated the Dubois County Board of Commissioners on roadwork, bridge construction and equipment needs at the July 15 meeting.
Wendholt outlined CCMG 2024-01 paving schedules being completed by C&R Construction and said he will apply for CCMG 2024-02 listing multiple roads and associated project costs, including 600 East ($410,459.90), 190 North ($216,899.95) and Meridian Road ($54,964.37). He said the round represents the county’s maximum allowable request for 2024 and that the county’s share would be $170,581.08; the County Council had already appropriated $170,000 from LIT-ED toward the match and the MVH fund can cover the difference. The board voted unanimously to proceed with the grant application and to sign the required Financial Commitment Letter.
Berg reported chip-seal paving is about 73% complete, with overlays finished and a multi-road schedule provided through early August 2024. He also described plans for replacing Truck 212 and requested $95,000 to build a replacement from a used tandem chassis, and noted the superintendent truck will likely be replaced in 2025.
Bridge #254 (St. Anthony Road West) crews will dig the footer and begin wall construction this week as part of ongoing bridge work.
Several highway funding items and equipment purchases were discussed as contingent on County Council approval before final funding commitments.
