Dayton council approves dockets, contracts, police requests and community event allocations

The Dayton Town Council approved multiple financial and community items at its Jan. 21 meeting, including dockets, contracts and police-related expenditures.
Council approved the December 2024 Allowance Docket totaling $22,586.57 and the Claims Docket for Jan. 21, 2025, totaling $256,968.22. The council also approved December reports (Appropriation, Bank Reconciliation, Fund, Revenue) and minutes for prior meetings dated Dec. 17 and Dec. 31, 2024.
Clerk-Treasurer Bridget Cadwallader presented a contract for Larry Tippin, which the council approved. Cadwallader also explained receipt number 1754 for $450.19 and noted old outstanding checks; the council approved receipt 1754.
Town Marshal Scott Taylor reported INDOT denied the request for a traffic signal at Dayton Road and State Road 38; the council voted to include INDOT’s letter in the meeting minutes. Taylor also requested permission for three officers to attend the Indiana Marshals Training Conference April 3–5 at a total cost of $375; the council approved the training expense. Taylor discussed a stop-sign assessment at Washington and Ohio Streets (not warranted) and a camera equipment quote that the council elected not to pursue at this time.
Under new business, the council allocated $500 toward an Easter Egg Hunt planned by Utility President Leah Copas and approved a $500 deposit to J&B Environmental Abatement to begin asbestos testing at the community center property. The meeting concluded with President Buhrmester adjourning the session.
