The Dayton Town Council on Jan. 21 adopted Ordinance 2025-1, a measure establishing the mechanism for appointment and terms of office for various town positions, and filled the council’s officer posts for 2025.
Town Board President Marc Buhrmester called the meeting to order and, after a motion to suspend the rules, Clerk-Treasurer Bridget Cadwallader read the ordinance title: "Ordinance 2025-1 An Ordinance Establishing The Mechanism For Appointment And The Terms Of Office For Various Offices Of The Town Of Dayton, Indiana." The council then voted to adopt the ordinance on first and second reading by roll call; the motion carried with all five members voting yes.
Attorney Patrick Jones opened nominations for board officers. Steve Schuhle nominated Marc Buhrmester for president; the council approved the nomination with one abstention recorded. Leah Copas was elected utility board president and Rocky Richards was elected utility board vice president after nominations were closed and roll-call votes taken; several votes recorded abstentions where noted in the minutes.
The council also made committee and liaison appointments at the same meeting: Buhrmester appointed Schuhle to the Area Plan Commission and police liaison; Buhrmester assigned himself to finance and roads and streets; Copas was assigned building and maintenance; Richards was assigned personnel; and Bridget Cadwallader was named the town’s ADA representative.
The meeting record shows the council completed the procedural votes and appointments and then moved on to other agenda items.
