Darmstadt council adopts 2025 budget, renews four council districts

The Darmstadt Town Council voted unanimously Oct. 15 to adopt the town's 2025 budget and to approve Redistricting Ordinance O-2024-5, which renews the municipality's current four voting districts.
Council President Eric Gries called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. and the council moved immediately into routine business. Ray Engler moved and Councilmember Crystal Kahre seconded the motion to accept the 2025 Town Budget; the motion passed on a 4-0 voice vote. Clerk-Treasurer Mallory Lowe told the council the adoption establishes the tax revenue allocations for town funds and the bond-payment revenue for the Old State land, which are needed to make two payments due in 2025. Lowe also clarified that the town's sewer department operates under a separate, self-sufficient budget and does not receive general tax dollars.
On redistricting, Ray Engler moved and Cecil Poag seconded approval of Ordinance O-2024-5 to retain the town's same four districts; that motion also passed 4-0. The ordinance was presented without extended deliberation.
Other routine measures during the meeting included unanimous approvals of last month's minutes, the prior financial report and accounts payable claims. The meeting also included departmental updates from the clerk-treasurer, the fire department and the maintenance department.
The council adjourned at 6:59 p.m. No further public hearings on the budget or district lines were announced at the meeting.
