Darlington Town Council rehired former employee Jason Gates as linesman

Council Member Jeremy Weliever moved to hire Jason Gates as a linesman with MVH responsibilities; Council Member Marilyn Cohee seconded. The council approved the motion, recorded as 4-0.
Under the terms approved by the council, Gates will start work Oct. 14, 2024; he will not receive vacation time for the remainder of 2024 and will begin accruing sick time according to the town’s employee manual. For 2025, the council authorized a 4% pay raise, three weeks’ vacation and continued sick-time accrual; Gates is classified as a full-time employee and will receive the town’s health benefits.
Clerk-Treasurer Michelle R. Cash and Town Attorney Tyler Nichols were present during the meeting. The minutes note that all council members were in attendance at the special meeting.
The board set its next Town Board and Utility meeting for Nov. 7, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. at the Darlington Community Center. Council Member Jeremy Weliever moved to adjourn later in the session and President Nicole Parker seconded; that motion was recorded as approved 5-0.
