Darlington council approves temporary Beer Garden for festival after suspending park alcohol rule

The Darlington Town Council suspended Ordinance 93:01 and approved a Beer Garden in the town park for Sept. 6-7, 2024 (4–11 p.m.) after hearing an event plan that includes a single controlled entrance and required insurance.
The Darlington Town Council on Aug. 13 voted to suspend a park rule that bars alcohol and approved a temporary Beer Garden at the town park for the upcoming festival.
Sydney Davis requested permission for a Beer Garden during the Sept. 6–7 festival from 4:00–11:00 p.m., telling the council there will be "one entrance and one exit" and that she had discussed requirements with Marshal Crull. The council voted 5-0 to suspend Ordinance 93:01, which states "no alcoholic beverages are allowed in the park," for those dates and to approve the Beer Garden; President Nicole Parker and Council Member Marilyn Cohee each moved and seconded the separate motions recorded in the minutes.
Jennifer Flaugher told the council the DFI were working on a certificate of liability insurance to provide to the town, and she presented an estimate from Yund Outdoor, Inc. for cleanup. The approvals were recorded as unanimous.
The council did not record additional permit conditions in the minutes beyond insurance and the single-entry plan discussed by Ms. Davis; Marshal Crull had been identified as the law-enforcement contact who had reviewed requirements. The council’s approval is subject to the town receiving the requested insurance documentation before the event.
The council also confirmed the next regular meeting is Sept. 5, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. at the Darlington Community Center.
