Darlington council approves ARP transfer, community donations and payroll items

Council voted unanimously to approve the June payroll docket, accounts receivable and appropriation report and approved an ARP transfer of $40,000 from Machinery and Equipment to Repairs and Maintenance. The ARP transfer was moved by Jennifer Flaugher, seconded by Marilyn Cohee and approved 5-0.
During public comment, Dave Shelton of Darlington Forever Inc. reported that DFI paid for new steps and will add a railing at the Community Center; the council approved DFI's request to use the north upstairs room as a museum extension and to close the south restroom for repairs (motion approved 4-0; Jeremy Weliever was absent for that vote). Sydney Davis, director of the Darlington Pageant, requested use of the Community Center for practices Aug. 6'9 and the pageant on Aug. 10; she also asked the town to pay $109 for sashes and requested a $500 scholarship donation to support an outgoing contestant. The council approved the dates, payment for sashes and the $500 scholarship (motion approved 5-0).
The board also approved a motion to raise Marshall Kevin Crull's pay to $25 per hour and the deputy to $21 per hour for 2025; that motion was moved by President Nicole Parker and seconded by Vice President Teresa Sutherlin and carried 5-0.
