Steering Committee forwards seven recommended appointments to School Building Committee

The Town of Coventry Steering Committee on June 22 recommended seven appointments to the School Building Committee and will forward those names to the full Town Council for confirmation.
The committee voted unanimously to recommend Courtney Rossignol as the Board of Education’s representative, and to recommend Gil Addo, Mike Soucy, Tim Ackert (as the Town Council designee), Peter Dart, Kate Clark and Robert Jennison as the seven regular members. Members emphasized that appointees together satisfy the committee’s statutory requirement for construction and architecture/engineering experience and bring a mix of construction and education backgrounds.
Committee members discussed qualifications and party registration as part of their review. Kyer said he wanted motions that explicitly filled the requirements for construction and engineering experience; Hand noted specialties on individual statements of interest, such as Soucy’s electrical design experience. Thomas said she had contacted Robert Jennison about his interest and highlighted his construction-related degrees and experience. Thomas also recommended against appointing two former local officials who had submitted interest for alternates, saying she wanted to avoid bringing “baggage” to the new committee and favored a fresh perspective.
The Steering Committee agreed to keep the appointment of an alternate for a future meeting and asked members to continue reviewing additional statements of interest. All motions to recommend the appointments carried unanimously; the Steering Committee recorded the votes and will transmit the recommendations and candidate materials to the full Town Council for final action.
The next procedural step is that the full Town Council will consider and act on the recommendations at a future meeting.
