The Mantorville City Council on Sept. 8 authorized the immediate spending of $11,535 to begin repairs to corrosion at the City Hall water well after reviewing quotes for the work. Public Works Lead Joe Adams presented the estimates and said repair costs could reach $21,300 if the damage is worse than expected.
Councilmember Jim Potter moved to approve spending $11,535; Councilmember Kim Boyum seconded and the motion carried 5-0. Adams also reported elevated inflow and infiltration (I&I) flows on the sewer behind the old Relay Station lot and said the city may need to perform an open‑cut repair before next year, which could add approximately $40,000 to the 2026 budget.
The approved $11,535 is intended to begin repairs; staff said they will return with further cost information if additional work is required. The council did not authorize the larger sewer repair expenditure at the meeting but was advised to plan for the potential budget impact.
