City Engineer Scott Huneke told the Mantorville City Council on Aug. 11 that the CSAH lift station required to serve the Eagle Meadows development carries an estimated price tag of about $1,000,000.
Huneke said the city would likely need to front the up-front costs and be reimbursed later through assessments and payment from Bigelow Homes. He noted the project will require a Minnesota Pollution Control Agency permit and suggested the council consider ordinance language on sump-pump updates for homes at point of sale.
Following the presentation, the council authorized advertising for bids and set a special meeting for Sept. 22 to approve the chosen bid. The vote to advertise and schedule the special meeting passed 5–0. The engineering and public-works departments were directed to prepare bid documents and solicit contractors.
Why it matters: The lift station is a capital infrastructure project necessary for the Eagle Meadows development; the funding approach shifts initial cash flow demands to the city with reimbursement expected from the developer and assessed property owners.
What’s next: Engineering will prepare bid documents, seek the MPCA permit, and present bid results at the Sept. 22 special meeting for council action.
